Sounds like there is a lot of information floating around now that suggest it wasn’t 3D conversion that got G.I.JOE: Retaliation pushed back to 2013, but actually Paramount wanting to add in more Channing Tatum scenes. With ‘21 Jump Street’ being critically well received and ‘Magic Mike’ tracking with high numbers, Paramount might have changed their mind in killing off Channing Tatum in the beginning of the film. It’s not a spoiler to say that, but he’s not seen in any of the trailers beyond the opening part of the film where most of the JOE’s get murdered.

It’s sounding more and more like those reshoots are less about adding in more 3D specific scenes, but putting more Channing Tatum in the movie. This seems odd to me since the two biggest stars of the first G.I.JOE were largely blamed for people hating the movie even if it made a good deal of money. Simply stating that a 3D conversion of the film is what caused it to get pushed back seems like such weird last minute decision. The 3D market isn’t there domestically, unless foreign audiences truly love 3D films.

Sorry, as much as I love Channing, I think this was a bad move so close to release.
